When our Husky crossed the Rainbow Bridge, our house felt different. If you’ve ever lost a pet, you know exactly what I mean. The quiet felt louder, the routines changed, and my son and I both felt like something was missing.
We had always been a “dog family.” Over the years we’d had Huskies and Chihuahuas, so life without a dog just didn’t feel right.
Then one day, a friend mentioned they had one last French Bulldog puppy available.
I’ll be honest—I had no idea what a French Bulldog even was.
Sure, I’d probably seen them before, but I couldn’t picture one. The first thing I did was search for pictures online. As soon as I saw those little bat ears and squishy faces, I thought, “Ohhhh… those dogs!”
They were adorable.
Everyone I talked to said they were wonderful family dogs with funny personalities and loving temperaments. Since we’d always owned Huskies, I figured there was no way a little Frenchie could be anywhere near as much work as a Husky.
Looking back now… I probably should have done a little more research than simply deciding he was cute!
The very next day, I picked up Zeus from our breeder friend and brought him home.
It didn’t take long before we completely fell in love.
As puppies go, Zeus was surprisingly easy. He wasn’t overly wild, he rarely whined, and he didn’t have many bad habits. He settled into our family quickly, and before long it felt like he’d always been part of our home.
Life with Zeus was pretty wonderful.
But after a few months, I started noticing something.
Whenever we left the house or when there wasn’t much going on, he seemed… lonely.
Maybe I was imagining it, or maybe I was projecting how much we had missed having a dog after losing our Husky. Either way, I couldn’t shake the feeling that Zeus would love having another dog to play with and grow up beside.
That was the moment we made a decision that would completely change our lives.
We decided to get a second French Bulldog.
Little did I know, our quiet little family was about to become twice as loud, twice as chaotic, and somehow… twice as much fun.
To be continued in Part 2…
