Owning two French Bulldogs turned out to be completely different than owning just one. Once Electra came home, our quiet little house suddenly became louder, busier, and somehow even more fun.

From the moment she walked through the door, she and Zeus connected. Even though Zeus was still recovering from his broken leg, he wanted to stay close to her. They followed each other around the house, played whenever they could, and quickly became inseparable.

Life With Two French Bulldogs

It didn’t take long for us to realize that Electra and Zeus couldn’t have been more different.

Zeus had always been calm and easygoing as a puppy. Electra, on the other hand, had endless energy and wanted to be involved in everything we did.

More than anything, she wanted to be close to us. If we sat on the couch, she’d paw at us until we picked her up. She loved being held and rarely wanted to spend time by herself.

She also loved playing with Zeus. Even while his leg healed, she constantly encouraged him to interact with her. Watching them learn each other’s personalities quickly became one of our favorite parts of having two Frenchies.

Our First Health Scare

About two weeks after Electra came home, we noticed something wasn’t right.

She didn’t just have an occasional puppy accident. She had constant diarrhea and frequently soiled her kennel. We knew this wasn’t normal, so we decided to take her to the emergency pet hospital on Thanksgiving Day.

The veterinarian diagnosed her with Giardia, an intestinal parasite that puppies sometimes pick up.

Thankfully, medication cleared up the infection, and she started feeling better within a short time. Once again, our pet insurance proved to be one of the best decisions we had ever made. I’ll share more about why I recommend pet insurance in another post because it has saved us more than once.

Keeping Them Apart

The hardest part of Electra’s recovery wasn’t giving her medicine.

It was keeping her separated from Zeus.

By then, they had already formed such a strong bond that they wanted to spend every minute together. They looked for each other, waited by the gates we used to separate them, and clearly missed having their playtime together.

Thankfully, the treatment worked, and before long they were back to wrestling, chasing each other around the house, and curling up together for naps.

Would I Get Two French Bulldogs Again?

Without hesitation, my answer is yes.

Having two French Bulldogs has doubled the fun in our home. They keep each other entertained, encourage each other to play, and always seem happiest when they’re together.

Of course, they don’t agree on everything. Like any siblings, they argue over toys, steal each other’s beds, and occasionally annoy one another. Those little disagreements never last long, though.

A few minutes later, they’re usually back to playing or sleeping side by side.

Looking back, bringing Electra home was one of the best decisions we ever made. Watching the friendship between Zeus and Electra grow has been one of the most rewarding parts of owning French Bulldogs.

I honestly can’t imagine our home—or our family—without both of them.
